During the month of November, FCCLA members Emma Yrkoski and Parker Zabka educated the PreK and Kindergarten classes on proper hygiene as part of an FCCLA STAR Project called Focus on Children. They accomplished this goal by determining hygiene needs of each classroom by sending out a survey to the preschool and kindergarten teachers. Based on this information, they created individual lesson plans using skills they learned in their Child Development class such as lesson planning and creating developmentally appropriate activities for each class based on the hygiene needs identified by the classroom teacher. The PreK class learned about hand washing and coughing into their arms and the Kindergarten classes learned about brushing and flossing their teeth. Their assessment of learning showed that 98% of the PreK and Kindergarten students demonstrated proper hygiene techniques learned in the lesson.
