Friday, October 25th, the Twin River FBLA chapter hosted their annual blood drive. FBLA members were asked to either give themselves or sign up one donor. With their efforts they were able to schedule 80 appointments to try and meet their goal of 68 units. By the end of the drive, 76 units were collected. 13% of those were first time donors. This will potentially save 228 lives. We would like to thank the community and students for donating. A thank you goes out to FBLA members for scheduling donors and for the seniors for working the drive. We would also like to thank the City of Genoa for the use of the hall. Twin River seniors will receive scholarship money from the American Red Cross in correlation to the number of units collected. It's a GREAT day to be a Titan! #WeAreTR

The FCS 7 class concluded their unit on Families in Society by comparing flower pots to families. They discussed how flower pots are like families and concluded that they are similar because they both provide support for growth and development, they are all different shapes, sizes, and styles, and they need additional support from the elements or resources around them to help with growth. Students then broke their chosen flower pot within their groups and discussed changes, challenges, and crises that families go through and wrote those events on the broken pieces of the flower pot. They then discussed coping mechanisms, resources, communication techniques, and community resources that would help families overcome those challenges. Those things were written on masking tape and used to put the flower pots back together. The activity lead to great discussion, collaboration, and insight into family dynamics! Students in Adult Living have been contacting insurance companies to get quotes on car insurance within groups. They were required to use their knowledge of car insurance and communication skills in order to make contact with the companies. They then created presentations with the information they gathered on each company and shared them with the class to compare options. At the conclusion of the presentations each group discussed what they believed to be the best option based on coverage, the premium and deductible, and additional discounts and incentives. They also discussed behaviors that would put them at risk for higher premiums. This was a great hands-on learning experience for these soon-to-be adults! It's a GREAT day to be a Titan! #WeAreTR

Twin River Public Schools has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for Wednesday, October 30 at 2:30 PM, to celebrate with the communities and launch construction of the new Twin River school. The event will take place on the school site at the west side of the playground. The district’s vision for this building has been a priority for quite some time. The process to build the new school addition will occur in two phases over the course of 30 months, from ground breaking to project completion. Superintendent Chris Lecher explained, “Working within this time frame, our goal is to be ready to partially serve students starting in the spring of 2027 with complete occupancy in the fall of 2027. This is indeed a cause for celebration — to launch this important work!” “The board has set a goal to improve three key factors in K-12 Educational Delivery that represent a critical need in our District. 1. Modernizing the safety and security of our antiquated buildings, 2. Creating a level of equity where all students can be served equally, and 3. Moving the district into a future model of efficiency in areas of personnel, energy, and special services deliveries are all main components driving the decision to build”, he added. We hope the community will join us for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Twin River School addition to celebrate this investment in our communities and its children.

Students in Personal Health learned about Adverse Childhood Experiences and how those experiences can impact brain development. The goal of the Brain Architecture Game is to build the brain as tall as possible, which represents functionality, and as sturdy as possible, which represents the ability to withstand stresses. Students drew Life Experience cards to determine the materials they could use to build the brain. Positive experiences earned a pipe cleaner and straw for support, negative experiences only a pipe cleaner. After the initial period of early childhood brain development, weights must be hung from the structure when life hands out stressors. After the activity, the students used the notes in their life journal to discuss experiences that strengthened or weakened the architecture of their developing brains. It's a GREAT day to be a Titan! #WeAreTR
